In the heart of Monroe County, the city of Tomah rises up among the surrounding cranberry bogs. Located at the intersection of I-90 and I-94, it is the perfect place to stop off or stay awhile. And thanks to recent initiatives to provide funding and resources to local business owners, downtown Tomah has undergone a major transformation. Between eclectic shops, unique dining options, and family-friendly events, there are no shortage of ways to keep busy.
One of the best examples of Tomah’s new groove is Downtown Thursday Nights. This six-week music series happens every summer, is totally free, and offers fun for the whole family. There’s music of course, as well as food trucks, arts and craft vendors, and a Kid Zone that includes bouncy houses, games and face painting. All of this, paired with the overwhelming feeling of community and comradery, makes for the perfect way to spend a summer night.
Also downtown you’ll find shops and galleries like Gallery 1012, the Artisan Market, and On the Corner that feature the work of local artists and artisans. In addition to shopping, visitors can also enjoy creative workshops or utilize space to create their own projects.
And when all that shopping makes you hungry? Tomah’s got you covered. There’s the cozy, yet classy, wine bar Vino Anjo; The Break Room, known for their burgers and massive selection of craft beer; and Murray’s on Main, a modern eatery that pays homage to the area’s history. (Oh, and you MUST try their Brandy Old Fashioned Milkshake!)
Tomah’s downtown landscape might be evolving, but one thing that remains constant is the spirit and passion of the community. At the end of the day, Tomah will leave you feeling full – full of fun, creativity, family, and good food. So, plan on your visit! You’ll find them at the intersection of happy and home.
