Minocqua is located in the middle of Northern Wisconsin’s Lake Country. There are thousands of lakes, rivers, and streams that literally saturate the geography. And while it’s a popular summer destination, there’s an argument to be made that there’s even MORE to do in the cooler seasons. Whether it’s climbing into your snowshoes for an afternoon of snowy serenity, Minocqua is the place to be in the Winter months.

Here are five ways to enjoy Winter in Minocqua:

1) Snowmy Kromer

Back in the 60s, Minocqua locals started the tradition of creating a 30-foot tall snowman to greet people as they arrive into Minocqua. Locals view Snowmy as a beacon of winter tourism into the Northwoods. The name Snowmy Kromer comes from Minocqua’s great relationship with Stormy Kromer Mercantile in Ironwood. A relationship so good fact, that Stormy Kromer Mercantile created a custom hat to fit a size 96 head snowman.

2) Snowmobiling

You can snowmobile just about anywhere in the state, but what makes this area so special is their 1,600 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. Many hotels, shops and restaurants in the area are located on the trail system and are a convenient stopping places during your ride.

3) Winter Park

Winter Park is one of the premier Nordic ski centers in the Midwest. This snowy getaway is perfect for cross-country skiing, fat-tire biking, ice skating, snow tubing and snowshoeing. With more than 6,000 acres of land, it’s possible you could be out on the trail for hours and not run into anyone!

4) Skijoring

Dogs truly make every activity more fun. Skijoring at Winter Park has picked up popularity over the past few years. Originating from the Norwegian word meaning “ski driving,” this puppy propelled sport is sure to bring some sunshine to a snowy day.

5) The Waters Resort Indoor/Outdoor Waterpark

The Waters of Minocqua offers 106 guest rooms and is the only full-service lodging option in the area. This Northwoods favorite has all the amenities you would get if you were in a big city. Complete with a full-service bar and restaurant, coffee shop and indoor-outdoor waterpark, The Waters is the perfect family getaway. The Waters has even more to offer their guests with their indoor-outdoor waterpark. It features a play area, basketball hoops, aquatic games and kiddie slides. Not a guest? Not a problem! The waterpark is open to the public with their day passes.
