Things to do in Lake Geneva During Fall

Discover Wisconsin

September 14, 2016

Lake Geneva, a quaint city in Wisconsin’s southeast, is known for its summer fun, but there’s no place like Lake Geneva in the fall. With its rich history, fun family activities and those burnt orange, bright yellow and flaming red shades reflecting in Geneva Lake, you’ll want to make Walworth County gem your one-stop shop this autumn.

  1. You can’t be in Lake Geneva without taking a walk along the Geneva Lake Shore Path, a 21-mile loop around the lake encompassing views of quiet neighborhoods, impressive homes and, of course, those breathtaking fall colors.lakegeneva_mariahhaberman
  2. What better way to see the entire area than in a hot air balloon? Jump aboard with the Lake Geneva Balloon Company, a business with years of experience, an abundance of local knowledge and a perfect safety record.
  3. Check out Geneva Lakes Boat Show at Abbey Resort, happening September 24-25, 2016 and featuring antique and classic boats and even a boat parade.

  4. While you’re there, explore the Abbey Resort, the only full-service resort on Geneva Lake. Between their to-die-for Bloody Marys, delicious Waterfront restaurant, endless family activities and the relaxing Avani Spa, The Abbey Resort is the full Lake Geneva experience.
  5. The Lake Geneva Cruise Line offers a variety of tours, such as the Full Lake Tour, cruising around the entire lake and narrating its rich history, or the Dixieland/Jazz Dinner Cruise, which includes an excellent meal and enjoyable entertainment.
  6. Take a history tour at Black Point Estate, the most recent addition to the Wisconsin Historic Sites. Each guest arrives at the 1888 Queen Anne Victorian home by boat, creating a truly authentic 1800s experience.
  7. Wisconsin is full of Oktoberfests, and Lake Geneva claims one of the best. Brats, potato pancakes, German Music, cider donuts, pony rides and Sprechtoberfest’s beer tent make this event one you can’t miss.
  8. Lake Lawn Resort on nearby Delavan Lake is a gorgeous place to stay or just visit. With its 200-acre property and two miles of shoreline on Delavan Lake, beautiful views and fun activities abound.
  9. While visiting Lake Lawn Resort, don’t miss its annual Fall Fest. Children and adults alike enjoy scarecrow building, caramel apple making, pumpkin decorating, hayrides and lakeside bonfires…does it get any better than that?

  10. Golf aficionados from across the state and country enjoy Majestic Oaks at Lake Lawn Resort, one of the top courses in Wisconsin.
  11. Yerkes Observatory is home to the largest refracting telescope on the planet, and is most known for its work on stellar motion and cartography. It goes down in history as the location where Gerald Kuiper discovered that Saturn’s moon has an atmosphere. Why not jump into history (and space) and check it out for yourself?
  12. “Tap” into your inner Wisconsinite and sample craft brews at Geneva Lake Brewing Company’s tasting room. The selection includes Oatmeal Stout, Boathouse Blonde, Oktoberfest Ale and Weekender Wheat – you’re sure to find a brew that speaks to you.

  13. If you’re feeling adventurous, Lake Geneva Canopy Tours is the place to be. Fly through the fall foliage on eight different zip lines, five sky bridges, three spiral stairways and a “floating” double helix stairway wrapped around a beautiful ash tree.
  14. Fall in Wisconsin is unpredictable, so for those chilly, rainy days, Tristan Crist Magic Theatre provides shelter and Las Vegas quality magic and illusion entertainment.
  15. A “must” for adults on their getaway to Lake Geneva is the Studio Winery. Half art gallery, half recording studio and, of course, delicious wine, Studio considers itself an urban winery. Its daily tastings, live music and instructor-led painting sessions make this experience one-of-a-kind for all Lake Geneva guests this fall.

Lake Geneva, a beauty during all seasons, offers endless fun, unbelievable views, and an abundance of history; it’s a must this fall. For more, stream There’s No Place Like Lake Geneva online at discoverwisconsin.com.
